Me and Stuff

muskin-picThank you for being interested in me and my stuff. For a TV dose, watch me talk writing and give a reading with Cathy Wurzer on TPT’s Almanac. For a profile of me in the wonderful, click this thingy.

But I can tell you right here that I am a writer and have been since I was six and wrote a little story about a black cat who speared people to death. I showed the story to my mother, who said, “Don’t be so morbid.” Clearly, I was on to something.

I grew up In Omaha, attended lovable Grinnell College, and moved to current home Minneapolis, where I live with my wife and baby girl. I have an MFA from the University of Minnesota and have published short stories in small literary magazines like Beloit Fiction Journal and Clackamas Literary Review, and also in the estimable Minnesota Monthly. Find another award-winning short-short story here. My short story collection is as yet unpublished and/or unrepresented…contact me if you are interested. The amazing thing is that in 2007 my novel won the Parthenon Prize for Fiction, an entity to whom I owe a profound debt of gratitude, and is now out in the world for you to read. In 2010, I was a finalist for a Minnesota Book Award, too.

To support my literary passions (and to get out of the house), I work in advertising as a creative director at the wonderful OLSON.
